So today I have once again entered the ranks of the unemployed. The group I was working with was a great group of people and I'm disappointed that I didn't have the chance to get to know them better. They all took me out to lunch today and we had a great time. I think I'm a bit more worried about their future than my own. The area I was working for was bought out by another company and almost all of the people that I was working with had been at the same company for years, have no clue how to write a resume, how to interview for a job, what it's really like in the "real world." I know that if I lower my rates or am more willing to work crap jobs, I can be employed. But I don't think that these people know how to go about doing what I do every day as a consultant. So I wished them luck and left the consulting job that I had been doing for the last three months regretting I couldn't have done more for them.

The employment situation here in the Hartford area is not that great. It's not easy to land a consulting job. Most companies would rather you work at lower wages as a "permanent" employee on a job that is just as tenuous as a consulting gig. Since Hartford used to be the "Insurance Capitol of the World" it is swarming with insurance companies that have shipped most high tech jobs offshore (to India) and co-located their data centers to the mid-west. So the jobs available around here available for someone like me are scarce. I know that MET Life will be bringing in about 5000 new positions to this area - for a call center. The Visa kids from India will take those $13.00/hr jobs, the state will be happy and tout that they created jobs. But it's all bull shit, no American will land a job here.

I see that Hartford is building up the Civic Center, funded by the Madison Square Garden (the owners), I have to assume they are also funding the 30 story apartment building that will soon house thousands of Indian workers, working at the new MET call center here in Hartford. What is happening to America, we sold out!

I am an American. I am working hard to make a living. I am very employable, I have skills. However, because of the attitude and actions by our GOP government, I am out of a job! The current government is selling out my life, my employment and my ability to make a living off of my 16+ years of skill. I'm a bit pissed. Thank you, government for letting India buy out the jobs, China buying out our textile industry, who's next? Japan! Sure, you're welcome! As Colin Powel said to India, "America is yours for the taking."

I'd just be happy being paid what I'm worth, not having India govern my pay rate.

Yea, Casto throws all opposition in prison and throws away the key. Good way to hold power for 50 years.

Hi Alice, I guess it is NeoCon acting up.

Are you not having a house warming party?

Alice Wrote the following on 03/12/2005 3:32 PM :
Hey Juniper! We're doing the housewarming tomorrow evening. One of our guests had to go to a wedding today (officiating actually), so I rescheduled. I have been fairly busy today, lots of prep work to do. I think I'll post a picture of one of my desserts in the forum ... check the for women only section in about 3 minutes.

Alice Wrote the following on 03/12/2005 3:34 PM :
For the sake of continuity, I also posted my dessert picture in the Cooking thing.

Juniper Wrote the following on 03/12/2005 3:37 PM :
Cool will do that! In the mean time I will laugh with NeoCon loosing his last grains of sanity! Guess we finaly worn him down. LOL (really start to think it's the madness brought on by syphillis in the last stages!)

Alice Wrote the following on 03/12/2005 3:39 PM :
Indeed, the last stages of VD can ravage the brain .. as can too much religion.

Juniper Wrote the following on 03/12/2005 3:43 PM :
Cool dessert by the way!

NeoCon been posting that repetitive crap all day... must be religious fervor brought on by VD.

Alice Wrote the following on 03/12/2005 3:43 PM :
Regarding the dinner party .. well it really is traditional aside from the dessert. I just wanted to do something totally fun and different. I'm also making vagina danishes .. will post pictures of those tomorrow. The way it works out is there are 4 couples in total, one gay 3 straight. So I've made 5 small penis cakes, and will make 3 vaginas tomorrow.

I suppose I'm just silly .. but I think it's fucking hilarious.

Juniper Wrote the following on 03/12/2005 3:48 PM :
It is totally hilarious specially if it comes out of the blue. Guess there will be some "blushing"

Alice Wrote the following on 03/12/2005 3:50 PM :
My plan is to set them on the dining table while everyone is sitting in the living room ... then the can walk over for the big reveal ... I anticipate lots of laughter!

Juniper Wrote the following on 03/12/2005 3:50 PM :
Codewolf, if MET life is bringing in a call center with 5,000 people working, don't they need experienced IT people to supervise the working of it? Maybe there might be a posibility there for you! Although, if you can get your own business of the ground, that would be really super! I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Juniper Wrote the following on 03/12/2005 3:52 PM :
Have Camera ready Alice! (hope the cats won't taste them during the sit down!) Looks like a great idea!

Juniper Wrote the following on 03/12/2005 3:55 PM :
Dear o dear is almost 5:00 pm! Lost track of time with that "stack the cats" game... gotta run. Have loads of fun tomorrow Alice! (Did you post recipe in cooking section? might want to do something similar!)

Alice Wrote the following on 03/12/2005 3:58 PM :
I hope to have great fun .. will post a recipe later on ..

Have a great day!!
