Good book explains how Southerners view the Blue States as the Scotts viewed England in the 17th century - they fight them. The Scots-Irish are clanish, warrior people who hate authority (government) or anyone that tries to take their guns away. They don't join groups and reward individuality. They settled areas in the US where people like country music and NASCAR.
