codewolf Wrote the following on 12/21/2004 7:16 PM : well, I wouldn't consider Linspire a decent linux distro. I'd take the thing and install Debian or Fedora

Nony Wrote the following on 12/22/2004 2:29 PM : Due to our beloved Leader's little war game, ammo is in high demand at the moment... the reality of a free market. You can still get 9mm ammo reasonably cheap here, but you will need permits and IDs, phonebill or electric bill won't do. Remember this is a pussy liberal socialist wanker country you would never visit, they only make the guns and ammo here, to sell to red staters and the US army. (They are too smart to use it themselves)
Sky Wrote the following on 12/22/2004 3:28 PM : And what's the rates of violent crimes there, Nony? Yeah, I know; nothing compared to ours. Just as it is in all other countries where hand guns and assault weapons are either outlawed or very carefully controlled. I've always wondered why some Americans believe they won't be able to go on without their guns, while citizens of other countries wouldn't even consider owning one. I wonder if anyone's ever studied the psychology of this. Is it just a cultural thing. Some friends and I were debating this at a party a few years back. Most of theguys owned guns and were anti gun control (I was neutral). Surprisingly, one of the guys who strongly favored banning hand guns was a police officer. When the good old standby argument "when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns" was rolled out. The cop fired back with "That would be fantastic! I'd know exactly who to arrest." I thought he made an interesting point.
Nony Wrote the following on 12/22/2004 3:52 PM : Interesting question that Sky! Let's just say that you don't have to worry that some idiot in a moment of road rage pulls a gun on you, or that you have to worry about other rage related shootings. For the rest, as usual, if you really want a gun, there is a black market out there but I would not know how to contact those guys. On average very little violent crime here. You have the occasional murder/suicide family tragedy with a double barrel shotgun, but that is it. You have the rare shoot-out between the Albanese and Russian maffia who control the prostitution here, but those things are "professional" hits. They have some specially trained officers with up-to-date gun technology to deal with such things. The days that the police here had to chase bankrobbers in fast cars with their VW Combi van is long gone. (Actually so is "old style" bankrobbery). The fact that most people are not armed also tends to make the police less jumpy and trigger happy in difficult situations. Personally, I only contemplate to buy a shotgun when the muskrats in the pond tend to get out of hand again. Don't really have a need for one, or feel that I need one.
