What will it take to make these Taliban fighters trust American's or what they consider an American puppet regime.

I think the Americans would need to convert to islam ... oh, I don't know ... I don't trust the military either, and can't think of what they would need to do to gain my trust.

The Taliban has but one goal: to make Afghanistan a strict fundamentalist Islamic state. Period. They will never really except the U.S.-installed secular government. Democracy is antithetical to Islamism. They will just bide their time, grow their poppies, support and fund Al Qaeda and other radical groups and wait for the US to go broke or move on to another conquest. Then they will crank up a civil war and retake the country. the taliban knows something that the average Amercian doesn't. They can simply move into the mountains, disperse, hide out in their well-supplied caves and wait. They've already defeated one super-power using this tactic. They understand that the US can never afford to put enough troops on the ground there to defeat them.
