So, as you guys have probably noticed, I'm back from spending
"quality" time with my family for the holiday. I'm on a somewhat
self-imposed ban from writing about my family on this site other than the casual
reference to them (someday, I'll probably write a book or two about them since
there's too much funny shit that happens in my family - I'll change the names to
protect the not-so-innocent). However, the Thanksgiving holiday was a great
time. I had a great time with my father, my sister and her husband. They have a
great house (first time I've visited there), and the meal was perfect; we all
On the way up there, I drove my father, for about a two hour drive. He was
probably dreading the ride with me since he knew I'd want to talk politics. He
hates talking politics with me since "it pisses him off too much."
But, we ended up talking and arguing anyway. So much so, that we missed the exit
we needed to take. So, I called up my sister, and the following conversation
"Hey, I missed...."
"Where ARE you!"
"Um, I'm trying to explain, we
missed the exit, and I need to know if I take exit 15 coming FROM Boston if that
will put me back onto 128?"
"Why did you miss the
"Well, we just did, can I take
this exit or not?"
"I don't know. Why is it taking
you so long to get here?"
"Um, what I really need to know
is should I take this exit or not?, because I'm about to miss it!"
"But why did you miss the
At this point I threw the phone to my father and said "Fuck this, I'm
taking the exit!" I turned to my father and said "Let's just head into
Boston and have a few beers."
Of course we didn't, and I did end up on the right road, so it worked out. On
the way back, we were talking politics and other hot topics, and ended up
missing the exit for the MASS Pike (how the fuck do you do this! There's like 10
signs for it!), we almost ended up in RI. I yelled at him for not navigating, he
yelled at me for talking too much, it was good father-son bonding.
Thank god I only have to deal with my family once a year.
Oh, and thank you to Nony (damn, it was Nony day on the 26th!) and Surfer for
all the links when I wasn't able to surf the web!
