- Biking and running in the Florida Keys is about to get better -- some 30 miles better.This month, the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Monroe County will embark on $13 million in construction projects to expand the Overseas Heritage Trail by 30 miles. Currently, the Overseas Heritage Trail runs for about 70 miles along U.S. 1, said Monica Woll, trail specialist with DEP."This is to be the year of the trail," Woll said.
