Boston Red Sox - back in action!
- Well, here's my take on the Red Sox this year after watching the first game of the season...
Meeting the Rangers in their own stadium on a perfect day for baseball, with Schilling back on two feet, the Sox were looking good going into the game. Coco Crisp came out swinging, attempting to make contact with something but failed to do so on his opening at bat. However Schilling was looking better than I had seen him in quite a while and held back the Rangers hitting as well.
By the 5th inning the Sox hitting was falling into place with some great hits by Varitek and a great homer off the foul pole by Papi. That put the Sox into a 5-0 lead.
It'll take a while before we see how the new hitting lineup falls into place, but I did notice that all of the runs in the first half of the game were with two outs in the inning. Maybe the Sox will stop leaving men on base this year? Maybe?
By the sixth inning Schilling was looking a bit tired and let through a 2 run homer. Papelbon came in to relieve and looked fantastic! That kid is going to be great. Maybe that's why Roger was in the stands? However, with a 7-2 lead, Foulke comes in and starts to make me remember why it's painful to be a Sox fan, however, even he didn't screw it up enough to lose.
