I can see its function genetically, as hundreds or thousands of years ago, it needed for survival. But for today's world however, I would say to people "this is a global economy" and "think globally, because I live it" And with this incredible economic structure where the entire world relies upon one another, and I naively figured bigotry would just disappear.
Ultranationalists were one of the reasons I left the States and have spent 10 years in Asia (thus far). And now, bigotry in the US appears fashionable, as are arm-chair warrior opinionated hicks as Neo-Con. I would have never imagined it, nor would have I ever imagined someone as nationalistic, moronic, or feebleminded as Bush would ever come to power. And now the US mentality appears to be the rest of the world is only good for US MNC exploitation and US.
Appreciate the offer, but honestly, the dull Neo-Con mentality is one which I have always avoided, and will continue to do so.

Saying all Neocons are evil is bigotry popper. You're demonizing an entire group of people based on your admittedly limited experience with them. It's very narrominded of you to not associate with people just because their views differ from yours.
oops. I'm sorry, did I find a flaw in your logic?
Anathema Wrote the following on 07/22/2005 1:08 PM : Excuse me, but liberals can just as easily be narrominded intolorant bigots as Neocons. Just because liberals tend to uphold the rights of the individual does not mean we automatically have the moral high ground.
The definition of Bigot follows:
A person who regards his own faith and views in matters of religion as unquestionably right, and any belief or opinion opposed to or differing from them as unreasonable or wicked. In an extended sense, a person who is intolerant of opinions which conflict with his own, as in politics or morals; one obstinately and blindly devoted to his own church, party, belief, or opinion.
Now, I'm not saying that this doesn't discribe a lot of NeoCons, But it also discribes more then a few liberals I know. It might not be rampant bigotry, but it's bigotry none the less.
Surfer Wrote the following on 07/22/2005 1:57 PM : A conservative, a liberal and a moderate all walk into a bathroom. The conservative washes his hands using as little water, soap and paper towels as necessary. The conservative sees the liberal watching him as he finishes wiping the last of the soap suds off.
He clears his throat and says "Where I come from, we use as few resources as possible. This includes washing ones hands after going to the toilet. No one has the right to use as much as they want and certainly no one has the right to waste."
The liberal frowns and washes his hands. He splashes water all over the place, uses far too much soap, and three times as much paper towel as needed. He snarls at the conservative. "Where I come from, we each believe that everyone has the right to what they need and want and that we have no right to keep that from them." With that, he forcefully throws the wad of towels in the trash.
At this moment, the moderate walks right past them and doesn't even stop at the sink. His voice floats back over his shoulder as he walks out the door: "Where I come from, we learn not to piss on our own hands."

popper Wrote the following on 07/24/2005 00:30 AM : Appreciate your comments Anathema. Agree with you in that it hard not to take things more seriously today, than those yesterdays. The Neo's have divided themselves from most America, and 98 percent the world, shitting upon everyone along the way with their "morals" and "values".
Just minor correction, in that I never stated all Neos are "evil" (never used that word at all), but rather stated I "away from narrow-minded nationalists" - regardless whereever I travel. You also implied I a "liberal", which I am not. I am, for lack of a better term, a globalist: Work Japan, invest stocks / real estate America, vacation / shop Thailand, & Philippines, ski Austria, live off the US exchange rate, etc, and do everything possible to thrive the global economy.
