So I'm cleaning out a room next to my home office to use as an audio studio. I really want a place where I can professionally produce internet radio, as well as use it as a mixing studio for music. So I have a loose plan on what I want. However, the first step would be to make some space. I started cleaning out the extra room where I've been tossing stuff I don't know where to put for the last few years and ran across the following items:

Who the fuck stores shit like this! I'm fucked up, I have to seriously clean out my house!

Here's a pic of some of the removed stuff

If anyone wants the servers I mentioned, they're free if you pay shipping, otherwise, I'll be tossing them.

If you have any 400 mhz ddr, I'd be glad to take it off your hands... maybe even a sata drive if you have any.

One word. Ebay.

There's so much of this stuff for sale on eBay, it would take forever to unload it. I usually donate domputer equipment, but this is getting harder to do, since most places have so much junk now, they only want newer, fully functional computers, not components. So I go looking for a charity that needs a computer and give it to them. The problem with tossing it is that most computer components are now considered toxic waste because of the various chemicals used in the manufacturing of the components. It is actually a violation of EPA laws to dispose of them in public landfills. They are supposed to be disposed of only by waste management companies licensed to do this. We spent about $20K last year getting rid of about 50 old PCs and various components.

The Geek Group (www.thegeekgroup.org) is almost always looking for gear of most any vintage. We don't just refurb it and give it back to the community, we do several other things with it (like robotics, engineering, etc). Even if it's not a latest adn greatest computer, or if it's a gigantic old server (or even a mainframe) we have use for it. It's actually very rare that we turn down a donation of a computer.

Ols switches and massive servers are especially good for demonstration gear and suchlike. Email me at cboden@thegeekgroup.org if you're interested.

Chris

Sky is right. However you decide to dispose CW, make sure you get a "certificate of disposal." If this stuff ends up in a dump somewhere, if not properly disposed, you can be held liable.

Golly is right, I saw Alice's Restaurant, you don't want to end up on the Group (C) W bench!

codewolf Wrote the following on 05/07/2005 10:52 AM :
Yeah, I'll have to find some legal way to get rid of the stuff. I don't think anyone would want to buy this crap on eBay, the shipping would be crazy.

DogFace_Nut Wrote the following on 05/07/2005 12:12 AM :
Ebay, Ebay!! Do Ebay PLEASE!! God I love crazy!!

Alphageek Wrote the following on 05/07/2005 12:48 AM :
We'll still take it. Email me. I can likely give those servers a few more years of useful life.

lol, it stems from my job, I'm the President of The Geek Group, www.thegeekgroup.org we're a non-profit school that teaches kids about science and technology. We get hundreds of computers donated every year, but gear like he's tossing is seldom seen in our world. That's why I want it so bad, they guys would flip out with stuff like that to tinker on.
