I'm implementing the login code. You'll see a new login box right above the Shout Out box. Follow these steps for the first time:

  • Make sure you have cookies turned on for this site (I'll be making it cookie-less soon)
  • Go to the Message board and make sure you are logged OFF (link in the upper left hand corner.
  • Go back to the main page and log in from there
  • It should have your user name above the shout out box now

I know I'll have some bugs to work out with this. Use the comments under this article to test it out. I need beta testers.

If it's not working for you, your name will show up as "NOT_" + username

codewolf Wrote the following on 04/03/2005 2:47 PM :
I'll fix any misplaced "NOT_" 's until I'm sure this is working correctly

It works from Firefox now also, I allowed www.codewolf.com to set cookies.

If you don't want to use cookies, FOR NOW just post fix your user name with a underscore or something.

The system will not let anyone use a registered username on the message board, so make sure you are registered there. When you log in case does matter, but when you post it doesn't, if it's really you the case will be changed to that of your registered user name.

If you are logged in, your name will appear above the shout out box, the shout out name will be pre-filled, and the comment name will be pre-filled. You are free to change this. No one is required to log in or to use their user name when posting. You just can't use someone else's user name

Juniper -

I also use cookies for the "Previous / Current / Next" links at the top of the page.

codewolf Wrote the following on 04/03/2005 2:55 PM :
I will be adding a Log Out link.

codewolf Wrote the following on 04/03/2005 2:56 PM :
Oh, this log in will also log you into the Message Board, so you don't have to log in twice.

Never used those buttons actually... I always switch back and forth from 100 comments to main page and open the articles in a new tab... Got used to "working" like that. Well Codewolf.com now the only site allowed cookies in Firefox. I have no problem with that.

Thanks codewolf, at least this will mean the end of the "ID-Theft" by certain shady characters.

You're spoiling us codewolf! Maybe people will carry disputes over to the message board now!

codewolf Wrote the following on 04/03/2005 3:16 PM :
I still have to do some code for the shout out box. That's next. Funny side effect of this is that the message board now shows everyone who's not logged in as a Guest, so it looks like there's tons of people on it.

Any "logging out" procedure CW?

codewolf Wrote the following on 04/03/2005 8:33 PM :
I'll be adding a log out link up there as well. It will log you out after 15 or 20 minutes of inactivity. For now, you can log out on the message board since it's integrated.

codewolf Wrote the following on 04/03/2005 8:51 PM :
Logout link added.
